I strive to accomplish two feats when I blog. Firstly, I display my photographs/videos and secondly, I try to give interesting yet valuable information. In this week’s blog, I look at two non-traditional remedies or medicines, the Aloe Vera Plant and Coconut Oil, which comes from coconuts which have dried. The benefits are endless and there are little or no side effects.
In Trinidad and Tobago, because the plant has been hit by some sort of crop disease, coconut oil is expensive. I tried my hand at making coconut oil a few weeks ago and got less than a quarter cup or bottle as the case maybe, of oil from two nuts. At Ten Dollars ($10.00) for one dry nut, that is expensive.
The process is long, as you first crack the nut, drain out the water, then take the coconut out of the shell. These modern times dictate that you use a blender but the folks long ago used to use a greater, which is a rough hand held instrument used for grating ingredients. The shredded coconut is then washed, strained and the milk left in a bowl for at least ten (10) hours.
As best as you can, you then scrape off the cream (which looks like yogurt) that forms at the top. This goes into a very hot pot, preferably iron and as you stir continuously you see the coconut oil beginning to form. The cream leaves a grainy residue which is also edible and is somewhat of a healthy snack.
Making Coconut Oil
As little as one table spoon of coconut oil per day can have positive results on your weight, skin, hair, and teeth. Mixed with baking soda and other choice ingredients you can even try your hands at making your own toothpaste and deodorants that are chemical free.
To conclude coconut oil is magnificent and really does help cure many ailments. Take some time to read up a little on the subject.

Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is a wonder plant. The gel enclosed in the tuff skin can be used to improve digestive health, arthritic challenges, skin conditions or even to treat burns. The gel feels as cold as ice. You can apply it to your face and it gives an excellent facial.
The good news is if you do not have much space you can grow this plant in a small pot in your kitchen next to a window as the plant grows well indoors.
Do let me know if you have tried either of these natural wonders and what are the results you got.
