The First People Of Trinidad and Tobago

Imagefingerprint has covered a lot of events this year and more so over the years, however, capturing history at the celebrations in honor of the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago, will always be particularly memorable. The day observed today, the 13th of October 2017, was marked by the declaration of a “one-off” Public Holiday, accompanying Smoke Ceremony and a Military Street Parade which saw not only the descendants of Amerindian or First People, marching through their hometown of Arima but members of the general public joining in as well.

According to the First People Website “The Santa Rosa First Peoples Community is the only organized area of the Amerindian Survival in Trinidad and Tobago. The Community was formally recognized as representative of the Indigenous Amerindians of the twin-island state by the National Government in 1990. The community’s historical continuity is remarkable. The Santa Rosa First Peoples existed as a community since the early Spanish period, and before that, archaeological and proto-historical data indicate almost 5000 years of settlement in the island” Please check out their website at http://www.santarosafirstpeoples.org/about-us/ for loads of information.
