The celebration of Emancipation on August 01st every year, always brings mixed emotions. While a significant part of our history is captured in the sad events of slavery our beginnings as African people were born long before then. The Emancipation Village organized by the Emancipation Support Committee to commemorate Emancipation, reemphasizes this point.
From Geles (African head wraps) to Ethiopian Food, Haitian Art and the sweet sweet sounds of the African Drum, we as African people can stand proud, knowing that we come from a rich rich heritage.
Here are just a few shots of the last day at the village for Emancipation 2014.
