We are pleased to have provided photographic support to the University Of Leiden-Netherlands. After being approached by Ms. Tibisay Sankatsing Nava, Public Engagement Manager, of the Faculty of Archaeology, we collaborated with the University for the presentation of their exhibition entitled “Caribbean Ties, connected people then and now”.
The exhibition the University states on their website, “featured the results of the latest scientific research undertaken by the NEXUS1492 project “the connections between past and present indigenous cultures and our current multi-ethnic communities, exploring in this way the living and current impact of indigenous heritage”.
Launched in May, 2019 in the Netherlands, the exhibition was simultaneously held in other islands of the Caribbean. The University names organizations in Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago as being among their partners in the Caribbean in addition to work which was also done with organizations in Europe.
Our front cover photo and photography work at Imagefingerprint, assisted the University in archiving their goal of highlighting and I quote from their website again “the complex diversity that existed in the Caribbean archipelago before the arrival of Europeans and which remains a vibrant reality in the region today”. Added to which they also stated that “the main themes, were presented internationally in museums and community centers across the region, and were expanded with locally relevant content in each country. The design of the exhibition was a state-of-the-art modular concept, which allowed each host partner to select the appropriate module for their space constraints, local context, interests and budget”.
Congratulations on their good work and much thanks goes out again to Ms. Tibisay Sankatsing Nava and the University Of Leiden-Netherlands, for allowing us to be a part of this project and for featuring our photo of Justus Hugo Orassie, a Lokono (Arawak) shaman from Suriname, in different forms but particularly for using it on the cover of their “Caribbean Ties Magazine – Dutch version”.
